Dear Parent/Carers
We hope you and the family are keeping safe and well.
Its business As Usual...
Following the recent Government announcement on Sunday 10 of May 2020 at 7pm, we would like to say that we shall be continuing with our online music lessons. There are no changes for us as an organisation, till the end of this term which ends on the 10th of July 2020.
We will continue to monitor the situation as things develop and communicate accordingly.
Accessing Online Music Lessons with Zoom Password
We understand that some parents are having difficulty accessing the online Zoom lessons. Zoom has recently enforced another security layer which requires all meetings to have passwords.
Parents are required to log in to the Parent/Student Portal in order to access the lesson. Please go to the calendar menu on the left hand side where you will be able to see your children's lesson for that day and time. (Please see the picture below). In the pop up window you will find the zoom password for your child's teacher.

Again, c an we stress that in order to access the online zoom lesson, you should LOGIN ONLY via the Parent/Student Portal, not through any other route. This is because we have an integration in place between Zoom and our Parent/Student Portal.
Here is a video which we recorded and have shared with you on previous occasions. We encourage you to please watch it, as it provides a simple and clear guidance on how to attend your lessons using zoom. This can also be found on our website
Practice Log Hours
As the term progresses, it is important that students continue to log their practice hours. This is vital for students who want to qualify for the Discover or Explore Arts Award Certification.
Practice logs are part of the assessments and without these, students will not be able to obtain the appropriate award. If you are unsure on how to do this, please click on this video

Hello Parent/Carers
It's Mental Health Week..𝅘𝅥𝅯𝅗𝅥♫
It's been an adventurous last few months and many of us have had to adjust with this new lifestyle. Mental health has been a major concern during this period. As it's mental health week we wanted to give you some tips on support mental health for you and your child(ren).
We know that music helps to release the feel good chemical in your brain. There is strong evidence of the link between music and mental well- being.
So here are 3 ways you can use music to release that feel good factor within your home.
1. Listen to soft calming or classical music while working or studying - research shows that listening to music can improve concentration and the feel good chemical while working. So go ahead don't be afraid to listen to some music while homeschooling the kids.
2. Play your favourite music or instrument during family time - Social connection is part of human growth. Music is a great way to bring people together. So why not use this time to make music together as a family.
3. Use music to motivate you and the kids - You probably notice that you are cooking more often, there are more dishes and cleaning to do around the house, why not sing or crank up the volume in your home and get everyone to join you in the house chores and DIY? We will certainly be doing a lot of DIY during the half term.
Half Term: Monday 25th May - Friday 29th May 2020 ♫
Talking about half term, just a quick reminder it's bank holiday on Monday 25th May and half term next week. Please note that there are no online music lessons taking place next week.
ZOOM Update!
As you are aware we have been using Zoom to conduct our Online Music Classes. If you have downloaded Zoom onto your devices, you would have received an email from Zoom recommending you update to the latest version of Zoom otherwise it will not work. Please make sure you have done this before the deadline Sunday 31 May 2020. For more information, please go to Zoom.us.
Photography and Video Consent!!
We have now started working towards Explorer Arts Award. As part of the award we will need to show evidence of student work. If you have not already done so, please complete the photography consent form here. Thank you to those who have already completed the consent form.
We will certainly be doing a lot of DIY during the half term and enjoying our garden...hope the weather bears up...keep your spirits up.
Sincerely
Derin, Bidemi and the Templesprings Team

Dear Parents/Carers
Working Through Arts Award
Firstly, we want to say well done to all the students for working so hard to achieve their Arts Award. This week we have set homework for students who are working towards the Explore certifications.
The students are required to access the Explore handouts in the student portal or click here to access the handouts.
Please support your child in accessing these handouts. Note that students are required to submit this in a timely manner! For assistance on how to complete the homework, supporting information can be found here: Working Through Arts Award: Explore
Consent for Photo and Video Recordings of Tutors
Thank you to all who have provided the consent for Templesprings to be able to record the sessions as part of your child's musical journey.
We have noticed that some parents are recording the sessions, and we do understand your enthusiasm to support your child's learning. However, we would appreciate if you can ask the tutors for their permission also before you record.
Thank You to the Evans Family
Lastly, we would like to offer our condolences to Mark Evans who recently lost his brother Ian. Ian was passionate about music and supporting young people. Mark and the family have therefore decided to support Templesprings by setting up a Just Giving Fund for Templespings. We greatly appreciate this and say a MASSIVE THANK YOU for supporting our work in the community.
For more information or to take part please click here and share with your network.

Dear Parents/ Carers
In the past few weeks, we have witnessed unquestionable injustice and violence. The wrongful death of an African-American man George Floyd, at the hands of those responsible for enforcing the law horrifies us. These events and subsequent protests dramatically and tangibly highlight the social injustice and race relations challenges we face across the globe.
We are very proud to say Templesprings is an inclusive organisation, demonstrating the values of tolerance and equity for all who access our service. We are known for the respect we accord to all regardless of age, gender, race, religion, sexual orientation, abilities or socio- economic status. Therefore we, lend our voice to speak up against injustice, systemic and structural inequality in our society. Advocating for change, for inclusion and equity for all.
We have very important work to do to achieve a society that we all want to be part of, one that is free from prejudice, injustice and inequity. We are in the process of setting up 'Courageous Conversations' and we will share more with you in our next newsletter. So we encourage you to speak up against injustice of any kind and not be silent for the sake of the generations to come!

Ian Evans Scholarship Fund
Also we want to thank all those who have donated to Ian Evans Scholarship Fund. We have been amazed by the generosity in his loving memory. A week on, £8,500 has been generously donated. This will allow Templesprings to make music accessible for those with disability which Ian was a passionate advocate of. For more information or to donate, please click here and feel free to share with your network.
Volunteering Week - Thank You
Last week we celebrated volunteering week. We want to take the time out to celebrate all our volunteers and thank you for your hard work and dedication. With your help we continue to deliver the outcomes for our community.

We hope this email meets you and your family well
End of another term...
It is hard to believe that we have come to the end of another term.
We want to say a massive well done to the children for their perseverance and to all the parents for their support. We are super proud of what the children have been able to achieve as we have been working towards their Arts Awards Explore Logs.
We realise many of the families needed support as we completed Part A of the portfolio. Therefore as part of our summer holiday programme we will be offering Arts Award Portfolio days where we will be able to support your child to compile their Arts Awards Explore Logs in the centre. There will be an extra cost for these services.

Online Music Academy
We have learnt a lot in lock-down about how to deliver virtual lessons. And we were fortunate enough to create and launch a new Online Music Academy platform which aims to provide music tuition to people globally not just in Thurrock. For more information about OMA, please follow this link. |
Summer Holiday Programme
We are open throughout the summer holidays for the following programme:

September Autumn Term 2020
For September, there are two options available to you if you would like to continue music lessons with us.
As every organisation tries to re-build and adjust to the new norm albeit whilst operating with limited capacity, we will offer restricted In-Person music lessons at the centre for those who want this service. We have put together this diagram which outlines the high level features of our two services. For existing parents, please complete this Music Lessons 2020 Expression of Interest Form by 31st July 2020 to let us know what your intentions are, so we can prepare for September. |

Dear Parents/Carers,
Dear Parents/Carers,
The actions we are taking...
In line with current Government advice, we are taking the recommended actions to protect the children, our staff and families against the evolving Coronavirus. We continue to monitor and update our practices where necessary and will keep you updated on the actions we are taking.
As a center which works with Children and Families in our Music provision, Breakfast, After School and Holiday Clubs provision, we have always followed stringent hygiene practices and we have reminded all staff about being even more vigilant around these practices. Our musical instruments and equipment are wiped down before and after every lesson, staff and young people are encouraged to wash hands with soap and water often. We have put up signs all round the centre and encourage people to wash hands regularly.
New Government advice
Please note that the Government advice regarding self-isolation has now changed. If you, your child or anyone in your household displays the following symptoms:
We carry on...
At present, all our lessons and childcare clubs are running as usual. If there are any changes to this, we will update parents accordingly.
Except...
We have decided to postpone this Month's #MakeMusicDay event which was scheduled for this Saturday 21st March, and the Rock School Graded Exam scheduled for Monday 6th April until further notice.
Encouragement...
We confront very challenging times with much uncertainty and doubtless unease. In truth we must, and can only properly, focus on what we can control, so we encourage you to choose to remain calm and act deliberately and rationally.
The safety and well-being of all the children, our staff and families in our community remains a top priority for us at this time.
Sincerely

Dear Parent/Carer
As you will have seen from the recent Government Briefing on COVID-19, schools will close to the majority of pupils on Friday until further notice. We will write to you regarding the plans we are making to cover music lessons.
We have already written to the Parents who use our Childcare service of the support we will provide Key Workers. The government is mindful of the strain on public services like the NHS that would be caused by key workers having to stay home to look after their children as a result of school closures.
As we plan our way forward during these difficult circumstances, we ask that you contact us if any person with parental responsibility for a child at Templesprings is a Key Worker. A Key Worker is a public sector employee who is considered to provide an essential service, such as health care professionals, Police, Education Sector employees, etc.
Please email bidemi@templesprings.com to let us know by Friday 20th March, and provide your name, child(ren)'s name and the company you work for.
Thank you for your continued support.
Sincerely
Derin, Bidemi and the Templesprings Staff

Dear Parents/Carers
Thank You...
First of all, we want to thank you for your unrelenting support during the time your child has accessed our Music Services. Especially during times of crisis where trust is of the essence, we wanted to take a moment to acknowledge the challenges we are all facing globally due to COVID-19.
Breaking News...
As per our previous correspondence on this issue, we have critically reviewed our operations and are proud to announce that we're launching our Online Music Lessons so we can keep our virtual doors open.
Our team have been hard at work in order to deliver online video lesson capabilities to our students. We now have plans in place to ensure the continuation of our services over the next few weeks and months.
State of Affairs...
As parents ourselves, we have started having conversations with our children as they contemplate what the next few months has in store. Statements such as "I am bored", is being heard far frequently already. I am sure you will agree with us that now more than ever, we need to maintain structure and a sense of calm for our children. We need to keep their brain active and engaged. We need to maintain the habits that have been formed of weekly music tuition and daily practice.
Research has shown that disciplined, structured practice in music strengthens and stimulates parts of your child's brain that are related to reading, math, and emotional development.
PLEASE ACTION :
ONLINE MUSIC LESSONS :
Online Music Lessons is new for us and we recognize the huge opportunity this presents to both parties. Hence why we want to undertake a quick survey to determine interest levels.
Words of Encouragement...
Life as we know it, will not be the same again! Today, 20-03-2020, another piece of history has been created as the doors to the schools CLOSE. As with many a crisis from the past, GOOD always prevails in the end.
We will get through this, our children and young people will succeed and their lives will flourish like we always intended for them.
Once again, thank you for your investment of time and money so far in your children's musical journey, but let's keep the learning going, keep calm, keep pursuing your dreams for the sake of our children and this generation.
Our commitment to Key Workers...
Thank you for those who have responded, we are happy to provide FREE Childcare Service for children of those Front-line Workers. We will continue to observe all government guidelines for safety and hygiene.
Please keep these Key Workers, their families, us and our dedicated staff in your prayers too.
Stay Safe!

Dear Parent/Carer
Thank you and well done to all those who were able to attend their Online Lessons over the last two weeks. We have had an adventure and learnt new things along way - above all, that the human spirit is resilient and CANNOT be easily broken.
We have also been encouraged by the many who have renewed their membership for next term, our VIRTUAL DOORS will remain OPEN thanks to you.
Our Spring Term ENDS TODAY Friday the 3rd April 2020 with a BIG BANG!
The retake week is from Monday 6th April to Thursday 9th April 2020. Please refer to our previous newsletter (2020-NEWSLETTER 03: IMPORTANT END OF TERM INFORMATION) for more information on Retakes and Renewal.
Preparations for the Summer Term continues for us, so look out for more EXCITING NEWS in the coming days!
Finally, we want to send our support for all the carers, Key Workers in our community and thank you for your tireless work to SAVE LIVES.
Hi,
Online Music Lessons - Summer Term 2020 - starts on Monday 20th April 2020
Hope you had a good Easter break with the family.
We know that you are feeling the strain of the current situation on many levels, and we continue to reach out to you to let you know that we are right here with you.
As you may have heard on the news that things will not get back to normal (whatever the new normal is) for at least 6 months. This means children may not attend school until around September. This could indeed be quite challenging for most of us parents.
What We Are Doing For You...
We want to make sure that we support you and your child(ren) in every way possible.
We know how beneficial music can be for children's brain development, mental health and well being. Now more than ever it's increasingly important to support their minds and in fact use music as a form of therapy.
In the new Summer Term we are giving your child(ren) a 2 for 1 music lessons. This means that instead of 12 music lessons, your child(ren) will get 24 music lessons. That's 2 lessons a week!
Fixed Slot: Your normal paid for lessons will be conducted at a Fixed Time Slot during the afternoon. We will schedule you for the lesson which will be at the same time every week for the next 12 weeks.
Flexi Slot: The extra lesson will be conducted during the morning. You can login to the Parent Portal to book this lesson for your child(ren) at your convenience.
So, if you haven't renewed/applied for your child's online music lesson you can do so by clicking here now.
PLEASE NOTE: We have created a new Terms and Conditions to align with the new way of providing this service online. We encourage you to read this here and if you have any questions, do not hesitate to speak to us.
Keep Safe
Sincerely
Derin, Bidemi and the Templesprings Team

Dear Parents/Carers
Hope you and yours are keeping well.
The summer term has started with a bang and we are into the swing of things with our online music lessons. So well done to everyone for your support.
You will remember that back in January, Templesprings held a special event which was our first ever Arts Award ceremony. We had up to 150 people in attendance and the Mayor of Thurrock Cllr Terry Piccolo was there to present 77 Students with their Discover Award.
Good News! Discover Certificates are here...
With all of the Covid-19 pandemic, there were delays, but we are super excited to give you some good news... it's finally here, the Discover Certificates from Trinity College. For those whose children achieved Discover, you will be receiving your certificates in the post in the coming week, so keep a look out.
We want to celebrate with you so here is what to do next:
1. Take a lovely photo of your child with their certificate;
2. Join our new private Facebook Group by clicking here >> Templesprings Facebook Community Group
3. Post your wonderful picture in the Facebook group.
So what's next?
This term some of the children have started working towards the Explore Level which is the next level up.
For Arts Award Explore young people take part in arts activities, experience the work of artists and arts organisations, create some art to show their skills and share their work with others.
Explore is recognised at Entry Level 3 on the Regulated Qualifications Framework (RQF) and is designed for ages 7 and above.
We can't wait to see your lovely photos.
Sincerely
Derin, Bidemi and the Templesprings Team

Dear Parents/Carers
Explore...Onward and Upwards
As you know we are now working towards achieving the Explore Arts Award Certificates as part of obtaining the next level. Your child is required to provide evidence of their learning such as photos and video recordings.
Since we are providing music lessons online, one of the ways in which we can obtain evidence is by recording your child's online zoom music lessons. We respect your privacy and need to ask your permission to record these sessions.
Please could you complete the photo and video permission form by clicking here
Reminder...Update Practice Log
Remember to keep updating the Practice Log to capture the amount of time spent on their instrument. For Explore your child needs to show 10 hours of Independent Learning so please LOG LOG LOG!!
May Bank Holiday
We are closed this Friday the 8th May, hope you enjoy the bank holiday with your loved ones.
Don't forget to post pictures of your kids with their Discover certificate on our private Facebook Group. Thanks to those who have shared, we celebrate with you all.
Sincerely
